MEAL KIT FAQ

What are your COVID-19 precautions?

We hope you know that in these times and as always, we put the health and safety of our guests, members and staff first. It is our goal to maintain our operations in the safest way possible during these challenging times, and we are closely monitoring the recommendations of local, state and federal public health agencies. We are taking extra care to be diligent in sanitation and cleanliness, and we appreciate everyone who comes to see us, orders meals for pick-up or delivery, and receives our meal kits. You help us stay in business, support local farms and producers, maintain jobs with your trust and ongoing patronage.

In addition to our routine high standards for food safety and sanitation, we have implemented the following changes to our policies and workflows:

  • We are training staff on the concerns and risks of COVID-19.
  • We have confirmed the effectiveness of our sanitizer solution and have added more checks on the concentration levels. We are replacing sanitizer buckets and towels more often than public health requirements.
  • We are asking staff to stay home if they experience any flu-like symptoms and seek medical treatment as soon as possible.
  • Everyone is being hypervigilant about proper handwashing technique, and, as always, we wear clean gloves when appropriate to handle prepared foods. We already wash our hands constantly - this is just a good reminder to keep it up, and more!
  • At the point of sale, we have implemented hands-free payments, and are asking guests to use hand sanitizer prior to touching the payment screen.
  • We are routinely cleaning and sanitizing the payment screen and all commonly touched surfaces throughout the kitchen, dining room, market, bathrooms and offices.
  • We have removed all self-serve options from the dining room. Condiments, creamer, silverware, napkins and water are all available to be served from behind our deli counter.
  • We are prepared to accept to-go orders and will provide "no-touch" home delivery for dinners and farm-to-freezer meals, to start, and will expand delivery as we are able. You can order farm-to-freezer meals by email or phone. Online ordering is available for weeknight dinners, and we will expand to more home delivery as we go.
  • We are actively communicating with our farms, partners and suppliers. Everyone we work with is taking careful and measured precautions, as well.

For our Meal Kit Community:

Please know that in addition to the standards shared above, we continue to keep up the highest health and cleanliness standards to ensure your meals are safe from our kitchen to yours. We:

  • Wash hands routinely.
  • Wear gloves when handling and packaging prepared foods.
  • Routinely clean and sanitize all surfaces, including tools and coolers.
  • Monitor food temperatures constantly.
  • Clean and sanitize the inside of every meal kit bag, ice pack and all jars and lids returned to us with commercial sanitizer.

In-store Pick-up at Pasture and Plenty:

All the notes above apply! The team who normally is here to serve you will be here, washing or using hand sanitizer between guests.

Drop-site Pick-up:

We are so grateful for our host sites, and their work to also maintain safe and healthy environments.

If your drop site has a cooler, we kindly request that you place your return meal kit bags TO THE SIDE OF THE COOLER this week and ongoing. And, we will provide a hand sanitizer for you to sanitize your hands before opening the cooler (And, after, too, if you like!) Thank you for helping us minimize exposure.

Home deliveries:

We are providing sanitizing wipes for our drivers to wipe down their navigation devices, steering wheels, door handles, seat belts, and cooler handles.

We will be implementing no-touch deliveries, which are already a norm for most, leaving your meal kit bag in the cooler on your porch or in the designated drop spot, and giving a quick knock or ringing the bell (or not, if you have let us know that you prefer we don't make noise). We will NOT wait for you to open the door.

What will come in my bag?

We create our menus weekly, based on what is at its peak seasonally. You will receive one cook kit, one-ready-to-eat meal and one farm-to-freezer meal that you can eat right away or stash in the freezer for another day. Usually, one of these 3 dishes is meatless. You will receive an email Friday night with the following week’s menu.

How does your subscription work?

Sign-ups are accepted on a rolling basis, if you subscribe before midnight on Monday night your delicious, farm-fresh meals will be available starting the following Monday. Each subscription is set on a 4-week renewal cycle. Your 4-week cycle starts the first Monday and renews every 4 weeks from the day you first signed up.

Can you accommodate my dietary restrictions?

Yes (some of them)! Pasture and Plenty provides a weekly meal kit option for Omnivore or Vegetarian meals. The Omnivore meal plan most often includes one vegetarian meal each week. To accommodate protein-based dietary restrictions, such as shellfish, lamb or pork, we would serve the Vegetarian option to you in place of the planned omnivore dish which includes the restricted item.

We can accommodate mushroom and nut-free or other main ingredient substitutions, by swapping in a meal from our Farm-to-Freezer case, of the chef's choice, in place of the meal which includes the ingredient you stay away from. We ask for these preferences when you sign up, to assure the best service. Just add a note with your order, or email hello@pastureandplenty.com with your preferences.

We cannot accommodate dairy-free, cellulose-free, soy-free or gluten-free diets at this time.

(Please note that as we do our best to keep allergenic foods separate, we do cook in a facility that handles gluten and other potentially allergenic food items, such as eggs, tree nuts, peanuts.)

Can I preview my meals ahead of time and switch for something different?

Yes! Once you are into your first cycle, you will start to receive emails each Saturday with a menu preview and swap options for the upcoming menu. (2 weeks ahead) Swap one meal, swap from omnivore to vegetarian, swap all three meals for farm--to-freezer favorites, we're flexible. We just need your response with swaps by Monday, one week in advance, to assure the chefs have time to work out orders with farmers.

Can I suspend my meal plan for time away?

Many in the P&P community take weeks off and share their weekly kit with a friend or neighbor. What a nice way to appreciate someone for being on call for snow shoveling and feeding/walking the pup :) If you share the love, we just need to know if someone different is coming to pick-up, or if there is a different address for drop off.

If you need to skip a week completely, please let us know on or before the Monday prior. We make ordering and prep plans early in the week for the next week's meal kits. Email us at hello@pastureandplenty.com or let us know when you pick up your meal kit. As long as you let us know at least one week in advance, we can adjust your renewal so you are not paying for your skipped week.

Can I add more servings to my meal plan if I need to feed visiting friends or family?

Absolutely. Just send us an email, at least 1 week in advance, if you need to change your portion size for the week and we will contact you about the change in your billing.

What happens in winter? Do you still use local ingredients?

You bet. During the harvest seasons, we are always carefully canning, storing, drying, and freezing so we can offer the best produce our region has to offer, all year round.

What should I do if I’m not home during the delivery window?

We will deliver a big bag of farm fresh goodness to your door between 3:00 and 6:30pm every Monday. If you won't be home, just place a large, water-tight, cooler outside your door. When you finish your day, it will be waiting for you. Need to make special arrangements? Just let us know.

How does the food stay cold?

Your farm-to-freezer meal serves as an ice pack for your entire bag. However, it’s a good idea to leave a cooler out if you won’t be home when your meals are delivered.

Where do you deliver?

Right now we deliver to the near West side (about a 2-mile radius around our storefront at 2433 University Ave) and to other portions of Madison, Middleton and Fitchburg. We are also busy working on establishing several pick-up sites around town. If four households in your neighborhood sign up, we can create a neighborhood pickup site for you. Your $10 delivery fee (covers an entire month!) will be waived and your neighbors will receive the local delivery fee! Right now we have a pick up site on the east side of Madison on Atwood Ave, Hop Haus in Verona, and Steve's Liquor on Junction Road. We also offer pick up from our storefront.

What day and time is delivery? When and where do I pick up?

We will deliver a big bag of farm fresh goodness to your door every Monday between 3:00 and 6:30pm.

If you are picking up at the shop, your bag will be ready and waiting for you every Monday at our storefront between 3:30 and 7:30 pm. The address is 2433 University Ave. There is a small parking lot behind our building on Highland Ave, as well as street parking in the neighborhood.

Pick up at the east side drop site is from 4-7pm

Pick up at Steve's is from 4-7pm

Pick up at Hop Haus is from 4-7pm

Is there a lot of packaging and waste?

Nope. We are very proud to offer almost zero waste. The meals will come in a reusable freezer bag filled with reusable / returnable glass dishes. The farm-to-freezer meal serves as an ice pack for the entire bag. Keeping unnecessary items out of the landfills is extremely important to us and something that sets us apart from national meal kit services.

What do I do with my Pyrex dishes?

When you’re finished with your meals, just wash out the pyrex containers, pop the lids back on, and put them back in the bag. Putting the lids on will keep the pyrex from clanking around and chipping. If you get your meals delivered, just leave the bag outside on your next delivery day and we’ll pick it up. If you pick-up, bring your bag back to us. Either way, it will be replaced with a fresh bag of farm-fresh goodness.

What is the benefit to using a local service?

You get farm fresh meals made right here, and know you are having a positive impact on the local food economy. All the food dollars you spend at Pasture and Plenty go back to work here in our local community. We support our local farms and ranchers, hire local hands to do the work, and cut down significantly on the amount of waste used in packaging and emissions from shipping.

How do I cancel or put a hold on my subscription?
