We're excited to once again partner with the Black Excellence Program of the Madison Metropolitan School District and Rooted, to offer another series of free 4-week virtual cooking experiences taught by outstanding Madison Area Black chefs to students (age 11-17). And, we need your help to make this fantastic program possible in 2022!
In June 2021, we served 175 students and their families! Demand for our program continues to grow each time we offer it. We’re seeking additional funding to allow us to open extra seats to students in the June 2022 and October 2022 cooking sessions, and introduce an MMSD Black Excellence Baking series in March.
Can you help us extend this experience to more families? By signing up and sponsoring another family, more students will have the joy of learning through the experience of cooking!
$250 is a full sponsorship of one student for the 4-week session. And, any amount of support is gratefully received! Thank you for making a difference for our students!
● Students receive a meal kit delivered directly to their homes, live Zoom cooking class taught by a local instructor, and a colorful course pack with all of the class recipes.
● Learn the basics of meal planning, sourcing and selecting ingredients, safe food handling and storage, cooking techniques and kitchen skills while making dishes like Margherita Pizza from scratch, Jamaican Pumpkin Stew, Birria Tacos, and Vegetarian Chili.
● Students experience virtual farm “field trips” each week, watching the season progress at a local farm, and see where the produce and proteins in their meal kits come from. This program supports several area farms owned by POC and/or women.
